• EVANGELISM and DISCIPLESHIP resulting in informed minds, transformed hearts, and reformed lives. The Soul Winning Action Team (S.W.A.T.) brings in the lost, and People Available to Contact and Encourage (P.A.C.E.) build up the saved.
  
  
• EDUCATION THAT IS CHRISTIAN. Our Ministry of Christian Education is committed to the Spiritual growth of men and women who are cultivating a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through required classes and relevant electives.
  
  
• ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. Canaan Academy, a private school that provides educational excellence in grade pre-K through grade 5, including college-level logic and philosophy course designed to help students develop critical thinking skills, martial arts after-school enrichment program maximizing the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and cultural potential of youth.
  
  The doors of Canaan Academy opened September 9, 1996. Construction of a new building was completed in the summer of 1999 and students began the 1999Fall Semester in the new facility. God did it! The Academy currently provides educational excellence in grade pre-K through grade 5.
  
  
• ENVIRONMENT OF HOPE. Christ-centered male and female residential SAFE Houses (Substance Abuse Free Environment) where people are successfully breaking free from controlling addictions and troublesome habits of substance abuse. Pastor Tatum’s vision of a Substance Abuse Ministry was implemented in 1986 and served as a model for a 12-month residential SAFE House for men, a soon-to-be-opened women’s SAFE House, and a Juvenile SAFE House.
  
  
• ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT. A practical approach to solving the problem of persistent economic violence that has historically plagued the African American community. Canaan Credit Union is A Self-Help Route to Financial Independence! Consolidated Development Corporation, a not-for-profit community development organization that seeks to guide community improvement of its economically distressed areas.
  
  
• EXPOSITORY PREACHING AND TEACHING. All texts are explained in context to give contextual interpretation. Expository preaching involves the listener and provides empowerment in clarification and contextual interpretation.

Adult Church
Sunday Worship services at Canaan are a celebration rich in tradition while at the same time vibrant and youthful. We enjoy the blessings of dwelling together in unity as we welcome all people to God's house of worship! Pastor Tatum exposits God's word book-by-book, providing full contextual understanding and life application.

If you are in the Champaign-Urbana area, we invite you to visit any of our three Sunday services. We provide shuttle service from the University of Illinois campus and local neighborhoods, including Rantoul. Children's Church
Children's church for ages 0-12 allows parents to enjoy adult services while their children learn Christian songs, experience creative age-appropriate lessons, enjoy arts and crafts tailored to a spiritual lesson, share wholesome snacks, and benefit from a customized child's sermon delivered by one of our Youth Ministers.

Even if you cannot enjoy the life affirming benefits of attending a weekly worship service, we invite you to allow your child to experience the nurturing and guidance of Biblical instruction.

Youth Church
Let's face it. Young people today are besieged with issues never imagined a generation ago. Peer pressure to conform seems to be at an all time high. Raising healthy young adults requires tapping into all your resources. Canaan's Youth Church is one resource you don't want to miss! Youth church brings God's Word to young people in a way that they can apply it to their everyday situations. Each Sunday, young men and women from ages 13 to 17 are invited to meet for a customized youth service.

This community-wide and socially relevant service researches young people where they are. Small groups and individuals are challenged to role-play and think through crucial life decisions. Innovative and entertaining methods are employed to instruct young people in: self-esteem, work ethics, social skills, and positive self-talk. Youth Church matures and equips young men and women for adulthood - Spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Canaan Youth Church meets every Sunday morning from 10:45 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. in a separate Youth Church building on the Canaan Campus.
